There appears to be a bug with the Chrome icon in Windows 10. Here’s how to fix the huge Chrome icon that appears from time to time.
Update (Nov 2016): This appears to be a temporary solution only. Chrome updates seem to have the bug reappear.
- Right click the Chrome tile on the Windows 10 Start menu and choose “More” > “Open file location”
- Right click the Chrome shortcut and choose “Open file location”
- Right click the file “chrome.VisualElementsManifest.xml” and choose “Rename”
- Add “.old” to the filename (i.e. “chrome.VisualElementsManifist.xml.old”)
- Close all the open Explorer windows and repeat the first step: Right click the Chrome tile on the Windows 10 Start menu and choose “More” > “Open file location”
- Right click the Chrome shortcut and choose “Cut”
- Minimise the window and “Paste” the shortcut on your Desktop
- Right click the new Chrome shortcut on your Desktop and choose “Cut”
- Maximise the window again and “Paste” the shortcut back to the folder where you copied it from
